CoMission for Children at Risk

As the host of OrphanCareResources.org, The CoMission Children at Risk has more than a decade of experience in equipping believers, churches and Christian organizations to care for orphans. Orphans are clearly close to our Father's heart, and He has opened doors of opportunity for His people to address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of these precious children whom He loves so deeply. Many believers, both western and national, have responded to God's call to care for orphans and street children and The CoMission exists to equip, resource and network these Christian leaders, organizations and churches to minister more effectively to orphans and street children.

A mission initiative of Mission Specialties, Inc, and in partnership with Russian Ministries, since 2000, The CoMission has provided conferences for leaders of orphan care organizations and church orphan ministries to enable them to minister more effectively to orphans and street children. In 2004, The CoMission helped to launch The Russian National Network and has partnered with them on numerous conferences in Russia, as well as on their Russian website, which serves Russian-speaking believers with orphan care resources and event information.

The CoMission also launched a website early in our ministry to further equip believers passionate about caring for orphans, and then expanded that site in 2006 to include information on hundreds of organizations, resources and events to provide anyone serving orphans with partnership opportunities, research on children at risk, materials and seminars for various types of orphan ministry and much, much more. With the launch of www.orphancareresources.org The CoMission is now offering an English resource directory focused on global orphan care. The Russian version, www.detiriska.ru, will launch soon and provide Russian-speakers around the world with the same type of tools in their own language.

Recently, The CoMission also partnered with 9 other Ukrainian, Russian and American Christian orphan care organizations to form A Home for Every Orphan, which is a indigenous led initiative supporting adoption and foster care by believers within Russia and Ukraine. In the last two years, A Home for Every Orphan’s partners have:

  • Placed approximately 1,000 abandoned children in nurturing Christian homes
  • Provided training seminars for hundreds of adoptive and foster families
  • Developed and used motivational media to teach approximately 200,000 individuals of the need and process for adoption
  • Started two telephone hotlines to provide in-home counseling support to adoptive and foster parents
  • Constructed large family foster homes providing the physical capacity for more than 60 children to be adopted and fostered
  • Provided food, medical supplies, clothing and educational training on disease prevention to children on the street
  • Organized Christian summer camps for adopted and foster children, as well as for homeless children

Early in 2010, The CoMission also became an official member of the Christian Alliance for Orphans (www.christian-alliance-for-orphans.org), a network uniting more than seventy highly-respected US organizations to ignite and equip Christians to care for orphans in their distress. The Alliance seeks especially to help establish and grow local hubs of adoption, foster care and global orphan care ministry in churches nationwide.

Now, following a conference The CoMission hosted in Ukraine in 2009 that was a catalyst in the orphan care movement in that country, we are supporting our Ukrainian partners as they launch their own Ukrainian national network called “Ukraine Without Orphans”
