Mission Statement
"From children in crisis to children in Christ"
ROH seeks to follow the example of Jesus Christ by demonstrating the Father heart of God through compassionate, holistic interventions for children in difficult circumstances. We believe to be authentic in our proclamation of the Gospel, long term care must be provided for children, including alternatives that allow them to escape their exploitive situations.
Knowing God has planned a "hope and a future" for each child, ROH\'s goal is to remove hindrances that prevent children from coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Once they know Christ, we seek to disciple them in the Christian faith.
Overview of Ministry Activity
ROH is a holistic service ministry of WEC International. It was founded in 1996 as a response to the nations of children living in traumatic and difficult circumstances. ROH will help other organizations, mission agencies and national churches set up ministries for children is crisis. ROH is a networking ministry and may set up Rapid Response Teams (RRT) to respond to international crisis. ROH may also help a WEC field or another agency or organization or churches initiate/launch a ministry to children in crisis but will always do so in fellowship with all parties concerned. ROH works with the full range of children in crisis: children of war, street children, sexually exploited, child laborer, girl child, etc. We are there for long-term care. Starting with the rescue from exploitation, we seek to restore trust and losses of the children. This includes setting the children in families - or restoring them to their own families where possible - providing education, healthcare and vocational training skills.
An important piece is prevention. To prevent child abuse and neglect, or the inability of families to care for their children, we encourage to have a parallel ministry to families. Currently WEC/ROH is involved in projects in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Dr. Phyllis Kilbourn founded ROH as an initial response to the civil war that destroyed Liberia. God broadened her vision to include children in crisis from many nations. ROH has established multi level rehabilitation and crisis care programs in many nations.
Rainbows of Hope has several books that focus on the needs of children in crisis. These resources not only raise awareness of the problems faced by many children in today\'s world, but they also train and equip people to respond to them. Handbook topics include children and war; street children; sexual exploitation; and HIV/AIDS.
