Overview of Ministry Activity
Lees-McRae College, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) is a small, private college nestled in the mountains of northwestern North Carolina. The College was founded in 1900 by the Reverend Edgar Tufts to meet educational and spiritual needs of disadvantaged students in the area.
Lees-McRae seeks to provide students with a nurturing environment that encourages intellectual, spiritual, physical and social growth, combining learning with leadership development and community outreach.
For the past four years Lees-McRae have provided scholarships for selected students from Russia and Ukraine to study at the College. The program has been very successful. It has enriched the College community and provided those students from Russia and Ukraine with an educational experience they would otherwise not hope to get.
Plans and Goals
As part of our community outreach, as we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we would like to bring disadvantaged students from the former Soviet Union to study at the College. We want to focus our efforts on orphans and other disadvantaged children who could profit from study at Lees-McRae College. We can provide partial scholarships and work-study for those students. We are seeking partners who could help us identify deserving students and to help raise money for this effort.
