Mission Statement

· Assisting Russian orphanages in the de-institutionalization process and in their transition to child rehabilitation centers

· Advocating on behalf of Russian orphans and people who work with them

· Assisting Russian communities in their efforts to prevent children from becoming social orphans and to help those who are still living in institutions

Overview of Ministry Activity

ROA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in Russia and USA. Association represents more than 250 member orphanages and child rehabilitation centers. We assist domestic and international donors in distribution of humanitarian aid, funding reforms and program evaluation. We maintain a database of Russian orphanages and child rehabilitation centers and collect needs assessments from them. We advocate for de-institutionalization. We support professional development of people working with orphans through publications, annual conferences, regional seminars and special programs.

Plans and Goals

De-institutionalization:

· Coordinate efforts by different groups in advocacy and public awareness by creating of Russian De-institutionalization Coalition

· Complete a Pilot project in Borovichi, Novgorod Region started jointly with KidSave International

· Collect information and resources to present on a special conference on de-institutionalization of Russian orphanages

Professional Development:

· Publish and distribute a Primer for Russian orphanage professionals "Rehabilitation of Children with Disabilities"

· Promote Pet Therapy, Art Therapy and Music Therapy programs in Russian orphanages and child rehabilitation centers

· To link more Russian and American pediatricians with our successful Doctor-to-Doctor Partnership Program

· To prepare orphanage graduates for life outside the orphanage by teaching them independent living skills and providing vocational training

· To link more orphanages with My Lunchbox Kits Program providing (individual photo albums, toys, children\'s Bibles, etc.) and with Matching Birthdays/Holidays Program (Luke 14:14)

Humanitarian Aid:

· To attract more domestic sponsors, to promote orphanage support programs among Russian Americans.

· Assistance to International humanitarian groups with needs assessment, shipping, customs and distribution logistics, project evaluation

· To promote Baby Formula Emergency Program in the US

Excellence in Electronic Services Program:

· To equip more orphanages with access to the Internet

· To add more orphanages to the on-line database and organize on-line communities for each of them

· To open a charity shop for Russian orphans
